The Holy Bible's Other, Very Best Friend

There are those who say all of Christendom rests solely on the Holy Bible; there is no greater authority. With love and respect for this position, I would like to declare that there IS a greater authority of Jesus Christ and His teachings than "just" the Holy Bible, as taught by the Apostle Paul:

"We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
"Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
"For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." (1 Peter 1:19-20, underlining by this author)

Prophets spoke - and wrote scriptures - under the influence of the Holy Spirit. Likewise, we cannot interpret the holy scriptures without that same Holy Spirit guiding us as we read and search these holy books. In this respect, the Holy Spirit is the greatest friend the Holy Bible has.

"If ye love me, keep my commandments.
"And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
"Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. (John 14:15-17, underlining by this author)

"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." (John 14:26, underlining by this author)

Notice that Christ Himself said that it was the Holy Spirit who would teach us all things; not the Holy Bible... it is through the Holy Spirit that we understand the Holy Bible correctly.

"But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me..." (John 15:26, underlining by this author)

As precious and sacred as the Holy Bible is to all thinking, striving Christians, the power and the influence of the Holy Spirit in understanding and interpreting the Holy Bible is even more precious and sacred - for without it we cannot understand that which was first given and written through the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is also the Book of Mormon's greatest friend - for the final Book of Mormon writer gave the following admonishment:

"Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts.
"And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
"And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.
"And whatsoever thing is good is just and true; wherefore, nothing that is good denieth the Christ, but acknowledgeth that he is.
"And ye may know that he is, by the power of the Holy Ghost; wherefore I would exhort you that ye deny not the power of God; for he worketh by power, according to the faith of the children of men, the same today and tomorrow, and forever.
"And again, I exhort you, my brethren, that ye deny not the gifts of God, for they are many; and they come from the same God. And there are different ways that these gifts are administered; but it is the same God who worketh all in all; and they are given by the manifestations of the Spirit of God unto men, to profit them." (Moroni 10:3-8)

"Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God.
"And again, if ye by the grace of God are perfect in Christ, and deny not his power, then are ye sanctified in Christ by the grace of God, through the shedding of the blood of Christ, which is in the covenant of the Father unto the remission of your sins, that ye become holy, without spot." (Moroni 10:32-33)
