MEN and DEPRESSION

In 2007 I wrote a series of articles that were published by the on-line Meridian Magazine;
I thank them for their courage in printing this series, especially Part 5!

  These are understood best when read in order as they build on each other:

Part 1: When a Handshake Isn't Enough: How to Help the Grieving, Depressed, or Traumatized Man ... how to help that man

Part 2: One Man's Journey through Grief, Depression, and Trauma ... how that man can help himself; based on my own journey

Part 3: Music to Calm the Beasts of Grief, Depression, and Trauma

  Part 4: Life After the Storms of Grief, Depression, and Trauma

Part 5: To the Wives of the Grieving, Depressed, and Traumatized Men ... written in a spirit of love and gentleness; it needs to be read in that same spirit! It is so taboo in our culture to tell a woman she can improve, and an even bigger taboo to tell her how. I risked serious social censure and wrote this article on how a women can help make or break their man and his depression, and I applaud Meridian Magazine for the courage to print it.
     Men en masse have written to say:
"I wish my wife had read this before we were divorced..."
     One woman wrote:
"I showed this article to a friend of mine who has lots of hard experiences being dominated by all the men in her life, and she said that any woman who read this and thought it was wrong needs to spend more time in the temple! She liked how kind your writing was." This, dear Sisters, was my goal.

Many readers caught on very quickly that the principles being discussed applied to women as well, but I wrote about Men and for Men as they are such a forgotten crowd when speaking on this subject.
