Called To Serve

'Called to Serve' has been used in Primary since 1920. It was written by composers who were not LDS, showing that the themes of service and missionary work are universal. Notice that today the gender has been changed in verse three to include the girls who are preparing to serve and not just the boys. Also notice there's been a a few other word changes.

1. Called to serve Him, heav’nly King of glory,
Chosen e’er to witness for his name,
Far and wide we tell the Father’s story,
Far and wide his love proclaim.

     Chorus
     Onward, ever onward, as we glory in his name;
     Onward, ever onward, as we glory in his name;
     Forward, pressing forward, as a triumph song we sing.
     Joy our strength will be; press forward ever,
     Called to serve our King.

2. Called to tread His path of service loyal,
Called to lead to His eternal light;
Rich reward awaits in mansions royal,
Forward then in heav'nly light.

     Chorus

3. Called to know the richness of his blessing,
Sons of God and children of a King;
Glad of heart, his holy name confessing,
Homage unto Him we bring.

     Chorus
